Dollar Spot

Dollar spot is caused by a fungus which develops in compacted soil with a high pH. It also favours damp, mild weather. It is a fungal disease which is not common in the UK and usually affects fescue grass.

When the turf has been closely mown, small, dry, circular dead spots of straw coloured grass can be seem, around 1-2 cm in diameter. These patches will sometimes join together and sometimes there is a darker outer band

Treatment of Dollar Spot consists of thoroughly aerating the lawn. The thatch should be raked out in early Autumn. A nitrogen rich fertiliser should be applied in spring.
